Benoit Varenne

Dr. Benoit Varenne is Regional Advisor on Oral Health, World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for Africa. He is also the focal point for the region for the initiative mHealth for NCDs. The main objective of his position is to contribute to the promotion of oral health and the prevention and control of oral diseases, including noma integrated with NCDs policies in the 47 member states of the African region. Within the WHO Regional Office, the Oral Health programme is part of the NCDs cluster that emphasizes the links between oral health and NCDs prevention and control. Prior to this date, Dr Benoit Varenne worked in consulting firms as a public health consultant for several years, as a consultant for WHO in the Eastern Mediterranean region and worked closely with numerous NGOs and other international health organizations in the field of oral health. He has assisted ministries of health, health authorities and health care planners in several part of the world with a special focus to the African continent. Dr Benoit Varenne graduated in dentistry in 1993 at the University of Clermont-Ferrand, France and holds a PhD in Public Health and Epidemiology from University of Pierre and Marie Curie (Paris VI). In addition to France, Dr Varenne has studied in community oral health at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark.
