Sharmila Mhatre

Sharmila Mhatre heads the Maternal and Child Health program at the International Development Research Centre, Canada. Her expertise in public health and policy research in low and middle income countries (LMICs) is founded on over 20 years of experience leading, designing and managing multi-sectoral health programs with a large network of government, donor and civil society collaborators in South Asia, sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America. Before joining IDRC in 2003, Dr Mhatre worked with the non-governmental organization Community Information and Epidemiological Technologies (CIET) as a Research Fellow in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. She also worked with UNICEF on issues of child rights and youth health in New York, Nepal, India, and the Caribbean.
