About 5 billion people worldwide do not have adequate access to surgical operations. Through the deployment of the world's largest private hospital ship, the Africa Mercy, Mercy Ships provides life-changing surgeries and medical capacity building programs by mobilizing people and resources worldwide. More than 400 volunteers serve on board the ship. Professionals including surgeons, dentists, nurses, health care trainers, teachers, cooks, seamen, engineers and photographers donate their time and skills to bring hope and healing to the poorest nations of Africa.
Mercy Ships was founded 1978 in Lausanne and has offices today in 16 countries worldwide. The Swiss office's main goals are to fund programs of the Africa Mercy and to recruit volunteers to serve on board.
